Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy involves the assessment, treatment and management of a variety of muscle and joint problems. It encompasses conditions as simple as a sprained ankle to complex problems involving several body areas. It also involves the post-operative rehabilitation of many orthopaedic conditions.

Treatment options can include passive manual therapy techniques such as mobilisation and manipulation, as well as individual therapeutic exercise programs, dry needling, therapeutic taping and posture and movement re-education.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy can be highly effective in reducing pain and restoring strength and mobility particularly in low back and neck conditions.

Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists are members of the APA who have completed post graduate qualifications (usually a masters degree) in the specialised area of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

As such APA titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists have advanced training in the assessment and management of muscle and joint problems. Their higher level of training enables them to assess and treat complex conditions and needs.

Mandatory continuing professional development programs conducted through the Australian Physiotherapy Association ensure that musculoskeletal physiotherapists continue to offer the latest evidence based approaches to the management of musculoskeletal conditions.

Roberts Physiotherapy also conducts weekly inservice training for all physiotherapists to complement these programs.
